The Problem

Commodity trading businesses — grain traders, brokers, supply chain operators — carry operational complexity that generic software consistently underestimates. Trade lifecycles spanning weeks with dozens of moving parts. Vendor relationships requiring careful tracking across contracts, performance history and payment terms. Inventory positions that need to reflect reality in real time.

The tools available were either enterprise ERP systems with implementation timelines and costs that put them out of reach — or spreadsheets, shared drives and communication threads that had long since stopped being adequate for the volume and complexity of an active trading operation.

The gap between those two options is where real operational risk accumulates quietly.

What Was Built

Cluster — a purpose-built, multi-tenant trade infrastructure platform designed specifically for commodity operations from the ground up.

The platform covers the full operational lifecycle. Trade lifecycle management from contract initiation through execution, settlement and reconciliation. Vendor and counterparty management across contracts, performance tracking and payment terms. Automated inventory management maintaining accurate position data across locations and product categories in real time. Payment and account management tracking obligations, schedules and settlement status without manual reconciliation.

Security and access control were built to enterprise standards from day one — OIDC authentication, role-based access control, two-factor authentication, IP restrictions and full audit trails across every user action. The multi-tenant architecture allows brokers and trading houses to manage multiple client operations on a single platform with complete isolation between clients.

Observability infrastructure using Prometheus, Grafana and OpenTelemetry gives operations teams real-time visibility into system performance and usage patterns. Built as a React PWA on a FastAPI and PostgreSQL backend with Redis caching — designed for reliability under real operational load.
