Taking ownership of a project means that responsibility for the project is fully assumed by one person from the very beginning. The architecture is designed, the system is built, and accountability for the final outcome is maintained by the same person throughout the process. No dependency is created on multiple layers of communication, and no loss of context is caused through unnecessary handoffs. The success of the project is treated as a personal responsibility rather than just a task to be delivered.
